I love photographing births because they are all so different. Every time I go into a delivery room, I get an excited nervousness in my stomach that reminds me of each of my own labors. These sweet clients had already been writing a unique birth story before they ever walked into the hospital. Just a year ago, they adopted a newborn, making a combined 5 children in their blended family ranging in age from newborn to 17. Tuesday, miracle number six was born.
Averleigh's mom was planning to have traditional delivery, just as she had with her previous children, but baby girl had other plans. While a C-Section wasn't what anyone expected or wanted, it turned out beautiful and produced a healthy mom and baby. Before mom went back to the OR, I told her that the whole point of birth photography was to tell the story of the way each baby is born, and I was going to do everything I could to make sure her whole story was told. After having asked several nurses and a doctor, I finally found a willing nurse anesthetist to take my camera into the OR to snap some pictures for me to edit later. She did an AMAZING job, and I wish I had caught her name because she was so kind. And the best thing about her was she really seemed to "get it". That even though this was technically a surgery, it was Averleigh's birth story. One totally unique to her and her parents.
I am so thankful they allowed me to be there to capture these special moments. Congratulations, guys! I am so happy for you all! Enjoy your preview!
