Sweet Cyrus Makes His Debut

I have been there to see a lot of babies be born and so that means I've seen a lot of moms laboring. I can honestly say I have never met one as gracious through the whole process as Jessica. Every nurse, lab tech, doctor, WHOEVER, who walked in her room was greeted with a smile and asked how THEY were doing. Even when the news wasn't what she wanted and the doctor thought it was best to do a c-section, she was kind and calm. It was refreshing for sure. Not to mention the dad to be shared my love of a good bus ministry and the future grandpa remembered things about Raider baseball that I had long since forgotten. I was there quite a while, but it never felt like work. This was a special delivery for me because while I've seen lots of births, I've never actually photographed a c-section (except my own with my cellphone but that's another story entirely), and was so excited when the staff graciously allowed me in. I got teary editing these because vaginal births get all the miracle talk, and while they certainly are a miracle, it is also a miracle that someone figured out how to safely deliver a baby when that isn't an option.  I'm thankful Jessica and Casey allowed me to be there to witness the miracle of sweet Cy coming into this world. Congratulations, y'all! He's precious!
(And don't forget when he wins his Cy Young that I called it in the OR)

Griffin's Birth Story

When Kayla told me she was pregnant, she told me very quickly that I needed to keep the time around her due date open. I was so excited that I was going to get to be in the room for the labor and delivery of one of my best and oldest friends. Complications led to a c-section and that wasn't what any of us had in mind. Because the situation felt emergent and because, as I said, the mom to be is one of my best and oldest friends, there are few pictures between just hanging out with nothing happening in the labor and delivery room and the pictures that Dustin took in the OR. I realized that perhaps being the photographer and friend doesn't work out that well when things get briefly scary. I didn't take a single picture during that time and didn't even realize it until I went to edit. I guess I was too busy internally freaking out. This is not a testament to my skills as a photographer at all but after all, I didn't meet most of my clients in kindergarten. All was well in the end and Griffin is healthy and handsome and that's what matters anyway.

Baby Reese is here!!

I was so excited when Brittany asked me to photograph her second delivery. Well, I'm always excited when moms want me in the delivery room, but I was even more excited for two reasons. First, she and I have been friends since middle school and second, because she's my first repeat birth customer! Two years ago sweet Ollie was one of my very first births. Reese is beautiful just like her mommy and is so loved already! Here are a few of my favorites from her birth day.
